Artist Salon: A Pop-Up Exhibition received some great work for First Friday, but there is still a wall to fill. The gallery will open the doors for the closing reception on Third Friday at 6pm with the same intent for the opening reception to allow artists to bring one piece in to fill the remaining wall on a first come, first hang opportunity. Share with your friends or bring a piece yourself to hang it for the rest of the April!

Exhibition Dates: April 1st – April 30th
Installation / Opening Reception: April 1st, 6 – 10 PM
Closing Reception: April 15th, 6 – 9 PM

For the month of April, the A. E. England Gallery will be opening its doors with blank walls inviting people to hang their own artwork. Anybody will have a chance to get their work in the gallery with a “First Come, First Hang” opportunity until the walls are full. The pieces that make it in the space will remain on exhibit for the month of April.

With this experimental show, the gallery will open for First Friday Art Walk not only for an opening reception, but also for the installation of the exhibition. This is an opportunity for new artists, especially those who have not been part of a show, to make a start exhibiting their work as well as a great chance for established artists to be part of a unique gallery show. The viewer is also invited to see behind the scenes of a gallery as the show is installed during the opening reception.

The concept for Artist Salon: A Pop-Up Exhibition draws some inspiration from the 19th century French salons, especially the Salon des Refusés (Exhibition of Rejects) that was created to showcase artists’ work that was not accepted by the French Academy including work by Édouard Manet. This pop-up show gives the gallery to the artists to decide the artwork they wish to display.

Artists may submit up to 1 piece and there are some requirements for submission. For the call to artists and further details about the exhibition, please see below.

Artist Salon: A Pop-Up Exhibition

Artlink A. E. England Gallery: April 1st – April 30th

For the month of April, the A. E. England Gallery will be opening its doors with blank walls inviting people to hang their own artwork. Anybody will have a chance to get their work in the gallery with a “First Come, First Hang” opportunity until the walls are full. The pieces that make it in the space will remain on exhibit for the month of April.

The doors to the gallery will open at 6pm to begin the installation process and opening reception for the exhibition. A sign-up table will be located at the entrance of the gallery to gather information as well as paperwork to fill out for those artists who make it into the exhibition. A representative from the gallery will be available to assist with the installation process. All artwork will be hung in the order of it’s arrival, if you arrive before 6pm please look for the sign that will start a line at the front of the gallery.

Installation / Opening Reception: April 1st, 6 -10pm
Closing Reception: April 15th, 6 – 9pm
De-Installation: TBD

Artists may submit up to 1 piece.

Requirements for Submission:

*Each work of art must follow the gallery’s hanging system. As part of a historic building, the gallery utilizes a hanging track system and artwork can not be nailed, glued, or attached in any way that may damage the walls.
*Artwork may not hang or attach to the ceiling in any way.
*Artists submitting sculpture must provide their own pedestal if it is necessary.
*The gallery only has one DVD player and projection screen and therefore will only accept the first video piece to display,
*The use of easels, portable walls, or any other system to create more wall space will not be permitted for this exhibition.
*Although there is no size restriction, artists should note that the wall height is 8’ so unless the artist wants their piece extending to the floor, artists should plan on submitting a piece that is smaller than 8’ in height.
